Children’s Theatre Co. artistic director Peter Brosius leaving
Longtime Children’s Theatre Company artistic director Peter Brosius will leave the theater at the end of its 2023-24 season.
Brosius, 71, joined the company in 1997. During his tenure, he produced more than 187 productions, championed more than 70 new works, served more than 5 million children and community members and championed equity, diversity and inclusion efforts.
“I have loved every moment of my time here,” Brosius said in a news release. “I couldn’t be prouder of this team and the work we do every day. It has been an honor and a privilege to be an advocate for young people, for their intelligence, their dignity and their agency. I have been filled with endless joy and hope for the future by their enthusiasm and their optimism.”
Under Brosius’ leadership, CTC moved “A Year with Frog and Toad” to Broadway in 2003 and earned three Tony nominations. That same year, CTC was named the No. 1 children’s theater by Time magazine. Also during his time, CTC more than doubled its annual budget, from $6 million to $13 million and grew its endowment from $2 million to $12 million. In 2005, a $30 million expansion project added the Cargill Stage, the McGuire Education Center and production shops.
“Peter’s legacy in theater for young audiences is unparalleled, impacting arts at a local, national and international level. But even more impressive is his positive imprint in millions of minds exposed to his work at CTC,” said board chair Silvia Perez.
The CTC board of directors has hired Management Consultants for the Arts to conduct the search for the next artistic director, who will begin on July 1, 2024.
Children’s Theatre Company is one of the top 25 regional theater companies in the country and is the largest children’s theater in North America.
